Through forty-two sets of clothing from different Spanish regions, all of them dated between the late eighteenth and early twentieth century, and a selection of the work of photographer José Ortiz Echagüe (1886-1980), this exhibition reveals the aesthetic and artisanal values of traditional Spanish making of clothing. Olivier Saillard, until very recently director of the Palais Galliera and curator of the exhibition, also links the origins of many typologies, structures and decorations that have been transferred from the traditional manufacturers to high fashion through the creations of designers such as Balenciaga, Ana Pombo or Antonio del Catillo first, and Lacroix, Galliano or Yves Saint Laurent, later.
"Icons of style" also recovers the collection with which the Museum of Costume began to be formed while it directs a renewed look at its origins, completing the set with a selection of the photographic work of José Ortiz Echagüe.
