Punto Cadeneta Punto (Metropolitan playwriting workshop) is a project run by Umbral teatro, a professional group that was established in Bogotá 23 years ago. The workshop was started up in 2008 as an educational and creative space where participants are equipped with basic playwriting skills and work on identifying and developing a voice of their own, under the guidance of accomplished playwrights with a constant artistic output, links to the academy and broad-ranging experience in education.
AC/E is taking part in this year’s Encuentro Iberoamericano de Dramaturgia along with playwrights, directors, actors and theatre researchers by supporting the participation of José Sanchís Sinisterra, one of the most prize-winning and best represented playwrights in contemporary Spanish theatre who has breathed new life into the Spanish scene. José Sanchís is teaching the workshop Nuevos rumbos en Dramaturgia de Textos Narrativos (New directions in narrative texts in playwriting), which explores the ever-fertile boundaries between narrative and playwriting in order to defend – if necessary – the inexhaustible innovative capabilities of text. It sets out to address the formal freedom of novels and short stories of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries by analysing the discourse from different approaches in order to provide participants with a broad repertoire of playwriting and stage devices to appeal to the sensitivity of new audiences.
