Huesca International Film Festival was established in April 1973. Since then its prestige has not ceased to grow and it has become consolidated as one of the most important short film festivals in Spain with considerable international influence, especially in Latin America. The festival consists of three competitions (international, Ibero-American and documentary) and has two chief aims: to serve as a springboard for up-and-coming talents and to become an international locus for short films.
This year’s event, the 42nd, is scheduled for June (from the 16th to the 21st) and marks the celebration of its 20th anniversary as a qualifying festival for Hollywood’s Academy Awards. With a new artistic team at the helm, the festival aims to enhance its essence, short films, in the three contests for which entries are screened at the city’s landmark cultural building that hosts the event: the Teatro Olimpia. The festival‘s offering will also be enriched by a series of parallel activities. This year’s event is aimed chiefly at achieving mutual understanding between the professionals who visit the city and cinema goers.
Thanks to the January 2014 visitors programme of the PICE, cultural planners Paulo Carvalho (Festival Cine Latino-CineEspaño in Tübingen, Germany), Iris Verhoeven (European Youth Film Festival of Flanders, Belgium) and Gionna Antonio Nazzaro (Gender Docu Film of Rome, Italy) will be attending Huesca International Film Festival as guests.
