Hay Festival Cartagena 2014

Hay Festival Cartagena 2014

Every January Hay Festival in Cartagena de Indias brings together leading authors and thinkers who work in collaboration with the local community. Literature, visual arts, cinema, music, geopolitics, journalism and the environment mingle in an atmosphere of dialogue and celebration in which the local population is fully involved.

With a large international presence, a variety of events and interaction between artists and audience (the 2013 festival had 47,000 visitors and featured more than 120 events with artists of 25 nationalities), Hay Festival Cartagena is defined as the cultural event with the greatest impact and following in Latin America.

Through its mobility programme AC/E has signed a collaboration agreement with Hay Festival Cartagena de Indias to jointly devise a programme designed to make known different aspects of Spanish literature and the Spanish literary sector based on the following actions:

Programme on children’s literature: Bearing in mind the boom Spanish writers of children’s books are currently enjoying and the particular demand for this type of literature in Cartagena, a talk has been organised with the writers Gonzalo Moure and César Mallorquí.

The graphic novel in Spain: Alfonso Zapico and Lola Lorentediscuss the vitality of this genre in our country, and show their works.

Generational roundtables: A dialogue between generations aimed at examining the different trends in Spanish narrative through leading figures. Following the generational scheme used successfully at Xalapa, there are three roundtables with Rosa Montero and Vanessa Montfort; Juan Bonilla and Lara Moreno; and Clara Sánchez and Víctor del Árbol.

Publishing talent meeting: An international professional event open to the public and aimed at making known novel and successful experiences in the publishing industry organised by Librería Cálamo de Zaragoza; a space where people from the world of books can exchange ideas and reflect together at a time of transformation and change. It is also a platform for assessing the different book-related trades, an endeavour to show models for copying and imitating and a desire to create collective knowledge. Priority is given to innovative projects which furthermore use on-line platforms and the social networks. The work of independent bookshops and publishers is also highlighted, together with the innovative work of major corporations. Development will be shown through a virtual tool embedded in the Hay Festival Cartagena website. Participating Spanish publishers and booksellers are Paco Goyanes, Ana CañellasJessica Aliaga Lavrijsen, Valeria Bergalli, Juan Casamayor, Fernando Tarancón, Claudio López de Lamadrid and Jacobo Siruela.
