The exhibition is part of the cycle of quarterly exhibitions Ob ras Convidadas organised by the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga in Lisbon to promote knowledge of the great masters of western painting. It features two portraits painted by Goya of Charles IV and Maria Luisa of Parma. They both belong to the collection of Altadis S.A. and are on deposit at the Archivo de Indias in Seville.
Both paintings, commissioned from Goya by the workers of the Royal Tobacco Manufactory in Seville to celebrate the visit Charles IV and his wife paid to the city in 1789, are replicas Goya made of the portraits of Charles IV and Maria Luisa of Parma to mark their ascent to the throne in December 1788.
