After seven editions, Goteborg International Biennial has become established as one of the biggest art events in Sweden and the Nordic countries, and is aimed at a broader and global context. Proof of this is the designation of a curator of Spanish/Equatorial Guinean nationality, Elvira Dyangani, as curator of this eighth edition.
Entitled A Story Within a Story, the biennial sets out to explore the concept of history as an open process and a collaborative experience. With this aim in mind, in collaboration with the Swedish public art agency (PAAS), Goteborg biennial has invited the Spaniard Santiago Cirugeda to develop a concept and methodology for a hybrid space that is managed by users and generates public meetings based on the concept of meeting and storytelling. The idea and form of this pavilion are a reference to the traditional ‘House of Words’ present in many African societies.
Another Spaniard, Inmaculada Salinas, is presenting her work Microrelatos en rojo (Microstories in red), a family album that is a powerful testament to frozen moments, stories and realities; an attempt to reveal what should normally remain concealed.
