Getafe Negro 2016. Madrid Police Novel Festival

Getafe Negro 2016. Madrid Police Novel Festival

Established in 2008 by the council of Getafe, a city in Madrid’s metropolitan region, this annual crime fiction festival has made the southern part of Madrid a focus of attraction for detective stories in Spain and has become established as a must-attend for followers of crime literature. The festival is directed by writer Lorenzo Silva.

Getafe Negro is an international festival. Since its second edition it has featured a guest country every year, thanks to the collaboration of foreign embassies. Argentina is the guest country in 2016. The core themes of this year’s festival are: “The culture of abuse”, on our society’s relationship with impunity and injustice, “Cervantes untied”, which sets out to “free” Cervantes from the yoke of official culture, “Refugees”, which stresses the crime aspect of the humanitarian crisis, and “Ideology in crime fiction”, which explores the ideological aspect of the genre.
