Game Jam Open Culture 2022

Between February 2 and 4, the hall of the Madrid Community Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports headquarters will host the exhibition of the projects carried out during this initiative organized by DEV and the Madrid community, with the support of AC /E.

Between December 16 and 18, in face-to-face and online formats, the fifth edition of the Open Culture Game Jam took place at the School of New Technologies (ENTI), an initiative organized by DEV with the support of Acción Cultural Española to develop games using public domain cultural content generated in Spain as a base. During the contest, each team chose the reference material that they found most evocative or inspiring to create games based on the creations of influential artists of Spanish culture. For this edition, a special focus on women creators was requested, with different projects relevant to the theme of the call, as well as the enhancement of cultural institutions and emblematic spaces in Spain that, for years, have promoted the creation and dissemination of culture such as academies, athenaeums and museums.

The Game Jam Cultura Abierta started as a reference as the "Public Domain Jam", which attempted to animate the creators to use public domain licenses in order to seguir haciendo juegos de zombies. Este evento recoge la antorcha y lo lleva a nuestro país para vindicar toda la cultura que ha creado dentro de nuestras fronteras.

The first four editions were a success of participation and attendance at the open days of exhibition of the best video games created in the event. All developed games can be found here: https://itch.io/c/459508/jam-cultura-abiertas-collection
