Once again, Carmen and Matilde Rubio’s dance company, Ballet Español de Murcia, is performing Flamenco de Vino y Rosas (Flamenco of wine and roses) in China’s leading theatres. The show is directed by Carmen and Matilde Rubio, with choreography by Matilde Rubio and Antonio Najarro and original music by Francisco Torneo and Óscar Gallardo.
The show, with a cast of 17 dancers and 6 live musicians, examines people’s insecurities, fears and satisfactions from acceptance to rebelliousness and from serenity to euphoria.
The company’s tour of China is being supported by AC/E through its programme for the internationalisation of Spanish culture (PICE).
The company, founded in 1985 by Carmen Rubio, has performed in many theatres throughout its two decades of existence and has taken part in national and international festivals. Carmen and Matilde Rubio have afforded the company an identity of its own, which encompasses the different forms of Spanish dance in its own style, though they have devoted greater attention to flamenco in their latest shows.
