FILMADRID International Film Festival was born with the determination to discover new paths in the landscape of contemporary cinematography, focusing on the promotion and exhibition of authorship in films. Participation in the contest is open to fiction and non-fiction movies from all over the world, with special interest in pieces of work which innovate in both narrative and formal approaches, regardless of production formats. FILMADRID is created by Pasajes de Cine, a cultural association from Madrid.
FILMADRID, Madrid’s international film festival, will bring a selection of international auteur films to the capital from 8 to 17 June, screening more than 100 from all over the world. 47 will compete in the two competition sections, Official and Vanguards, and the rest will be shown in out-of-competition sections and special screenings.
FILMADRID will open and close with two films acclaimed by both critics and audiences: "Certain Women" by Kelly Reichardtand from United States and y "A Dragon Arrives!" by Iranian Mani Haghighi. This edition is increasing its offering of side activities related to the seventh art and open to the public with an exhibition of audiovisual works of Jonas Mekas (in La Neomudéjar). This third edition they launch a new section about video Essay, organized in collaboration with the film and video platform on demand, MUBI.
The Focos section, devoted to internationally renowned directors whose films are seldom shown in Madrid, will host retrospectives on João Pedro Rodrigues, Deborah Stratman,Fred Kelemen y to the comedy and absurd of Iranian films. Vanguardias Live will bring film to the streets with performances by Randa Maroufi and João Pedro Rodrigues. The Pasajes de Cine section, aimed at promoting new Spanish directors, will screen the work of 10 young filmmakers.
