Brenda Boyer is the author of TORTUGA [chromatic passage #4], the winning project of this eighth edition of BAICC – International Artistic Residences for Cinematographic Creation 2024/25. The evaluation committee, made up of a representative from each of the three entities responsible for the call, AC/E – Acción Cultural Española, (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico de A Coruña and Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto – LIFT, has decided that this proposal was selected to be developed over five weeks between September and October 2024 in Toronto (Canada).
TORTUGA [chromatic passage #4] applies the principles of colour separation using RGB filters, copying and overprinting to build a film in which the Canadian natural environment vibrates through light, opening up a space of mystery within it. The committee highlights this project’s solidity and conceptual and technological interest, as it brings a unique point of view to the process. One of the keys to his work is that he does not need the three colours to come together in a “real colour”, but rather allows the images to stand alone with the fractured colour patterns. The result is more intriguing and sensual, and thanks to BAICC, he is able to delve deeper into this research through optical copying.
S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) organize this residency with the aim of continuing a line of work that seeks to open new paths for emerging creators, facilitating the creation of exchange ties with an institution of international relevance as LIFT-Liaison of Independent Filmmakers.
