FILCAR 2017, International Book Fair of the Caribbean

Founded in 2014 by Antonio Lopez Ortega in alliance with UNIMAR (University of Margarita), this book fair was first held in February 2015 at the Sambil – Venezuela convention centre on Margarita Island. Devoted to the sale, dissemination and promotion of books and reading, the fair attracts the country’s leading publishing houses to the island.

This 3rd edition of FILCAR is taking place on Margarita Island from 11 to 19 March at the Sambil convention centre. Among the fair’s international guests are the Spanish publisher Manuel Borrás of Editorial Pre-Textos; the Colombian Alberto Salcedo Ramos; the Costa Rican novelist Carlos Cortés; Juan Malpartida, editor in chief of the magazine Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos; and the Argentine Nina Bruni, a specialist in Caribbean literature.

The fair includes activities designed for professionals, such as the intensive workshops on editorial production, design, editing and proofreading, translation, literary creation, cultural magazines, and promotion and distribution strategies, among others. AC/E is supporting the participation of Spaniards Juan Malpartida, a poet, essayist and editor in chief of the magazine Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos, and Manuel Borrás, poetry critic and literary director of the Valencia-based publishing company Editorial Pretextos.
