The main purpose of the festival is to provide the city of Athens and its citizens with a celebration where reading plays a leading role and where visitors have access to different languages, strengthening intercultural ties. It features a series of activities ranging from writers’ meetings, translation and creative writing workshops, debates, talks, lectures, storytelling sessions, staged readings, dance and theatre shows, and screenings of documentaries and films on literature.
Spanish professionals Francisco José Martín, Santiago Roncagliolo and Pablo Albo are attending this year’s festival with the support of AC/E through the Mobility grants.
Francisco José Martín is taking part in the Pensar en español (Think in Spanish) section with a talk on the history of Hispanic thought in his texts and on building a Hispanic identity beyond the particularities of the Spanish and Spanish-American.
Santiago Roncagliolo, a Peruvian writer based in Spain, is participating in the Escribir en español (Write in Spanish) section in a talk on Hispanic literature and its history, present and future, and on its influence in the world.
Pablo Albo is running a storytelling workshop for Greek children and young people who speak Spanish as part of the Jugar en Español (Play in Spanish) section. The workshop teaches storytellers to use the gaze, gesture and words and to find devices for storytelling and play.
