Santa Cruz de la Sierra International Theatre Festival takes place only in odd-numbered years and has become the biggest theatre event in Bolivia. Its aim is to familiarise people with the theatre, by bringing this performing art to the city’s most outlying districts and the provinces of the Department of Santa Cruz.
Two continents, 18 countries, 46 casts, 126 performances and dozens of stories told on stage partly sum up this 10th edition of the festival, which will take place from 16 to 26 April. The theme of the festival is “Multiplying gazes” and it is organised by the Asociación Pro Arte y Cultura (APAC). The festival brings together the best of national, Latin American and European theatre at an event where the performing arts of the Old and New World meet.
Under the artistic direction of Marcos Malavia, the 10th festival will focus on Latin American theatre. This year it features two Spanish works, thanks to the support of AC/E: La llegada de los Bárbaros, by Metamorfosis Producciones, written and directed by José Luis Alonso de Santos, and Penal de Ocaña, by Nao d’amores, written by Josefa Canellada.
