Festival Internacional del Centro Histórico y Festival Internacional de Guitarra en Guatemala 2014

The Festival of the Historic Centre of Guatemala City is hailed as one of the city’s most important cultural events. Over the course of the 16 years since its founding, Guatemala City has been a backdrop for cultural expression open to the participation of various sectors and has established the role of the historic centre as an embodiment of cultural identity and a meeting point for citizens. Every year around 150 high-quality activities are staged free of charge. This year’s activities include a recital by the Malaga guitarist Marco Socías during the opening of the festival. Marco Socías’s participation in the fair has been made possible by the support of AC/E through its PICE mobility grants.

Marco Socías will also take part in the International Guitar Festival of Guatemala by performing the Aranjuez Concierto by Joaquín Rodrigo during the festival’s closing ceremony together with the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Municipal at 20:00 on 5 November at the Teatro Lux.

Marco Socías is one of the most prestigious Spanish guitarists. The youngest professor of guitar in Spain – at the age of 21 – he has received awards in several of the most prestigious guitar competitions, such as the  “Infanta Cristina” (Fundación Guerrero, Madrid) where he won first prize, “Le Printemps de la Guitare” (Belgium) and the Gargnano International Competition (Italy). He is a regular guest at the most famous international guitar festivals and, apart from his intense activity as a soloist in practically the whole of Europe, the Middle East and the USA, he frequently performs in chamber music groups (some of his projects currently involve musicians of the philharmonic orchestra of Berlin) and as a soloist in the orchestra. He has performed in concert halls as important as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Konzerthaus in Berlin and the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, and has been a soloist in orchestras such as the Radio Sinfonie-Orchester in Berlin, the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the Orquesta Sinfónica in Galicia, the Orchestra Regionale del Lazio (Italy), and the Orquesta Nacional de Cuba.
