Festival Interceltique de Lorient 2016

Festival Interceltique de Lorient 2016

The Festival Interceltique de Lorient is the most important Celtic music festival in the world and has been held since 1971 in the town of Lorient in Britanny. The festival is the main meeting point for the so-called Celtic nations and home to what is known as the ‘inter-Celtic’ movement. For 10 days more than 4,500 artists, singers, dancers, visual artists and others take part in the festival, which has on average more than 750,000 spectators every year and features more than 1,200 shows.

The presence of artists from Asturias and Galicia has been a constant feature since 1984, with official delegations that are part of the so-called Celtic regions: Ireland, Scotland, Britany, Wales, the Isle of Man, Galicia and Asturias. Since 2000 countries with emigrants from Celtic regions have also been represented, such as the United States, New Zealand, Argentina and Mexico, among others… The guest country at the 46th edition is Australia.

AC/E is supporting the participation of musician Marcos García with his new project ERRAI, of which cutting-edge music and sound experimentation are the main features. It is an original suite in which 12 of the best Asturian musicians of the past decade get together to form a spectacular ‘Big Band’ capable of producing a new sound dialogue between instruments whose role originally developed in very specific cultural environments and with clearly established social roles, such as the diatonic button accordion. His aim is clear: to explore new artistic forms that defy the pre-established concept of what should be considered ‘tradition’.
ERRAI is an original, ground-breaking creation that will shake the music scene with its new content and new discourses based on well-known musical elements. It offers an innovative compositional experience in which jazz, minimalist music, improvisation, the state of the art and experimentation are the salient features.
