The Festival Chantiers d´Europe 2014 revolves around four countries of southern Europe: Spain, which is the focal point, but also Portugal, Italy and Greece. More than 40 performances, lectures and exhibitions will take place at more than 15 different venues in Paris from 4 to 28 June. The aim is to show that the art scene in these countries retains its vitality despite the deep crisis they are experiencing.
AC/E is collaborating with the festival by supporting the participation of Spanish artists Amancio Prada, Diego el Cigala, Paulo Lameiro, Carles Pedragosa, Miguel Poveda, Javier Barón and Esperanza Fernández.
Amancio Prada, a composer and performer, belongs to the tradition of protest singer-songwriters, many of them expatriates but nevertheless internationally renowned, such as Paco Ibañez, Joan Manuel Serrat and Lluis Llach. In his vibrant tribute to Léo Ferre, he takes the devices of early poetry and reworks them in his celebrated version of the Spiritual Canticle of Saint John of the Cross.
Diego el Cigala is currently one of the most popular flamenco singer-songwriters in Spain. Accompanied by a quintet of musicians (piano, flamenco guitar, electric guitar, double bass and percussion), he performs selected songs from his repertoire of tangos, boleros and flamenco.
Paulo Lameiro and Carles Pedragosa: Concert for babies. The concerts designed for infants aged from 0 to 3 are organised around a guest soloist or subject, such as the sound of the trumpet, the deep sounds that calm babies, or the Portuguese guitar. This project, devised by Paulo Lameiro, is performed by excellent Spanish musicians with surprising success.
Singer-songwriterMiguel Poveda, although neither an Andalusian nor a gypsy, takes up the legacy of the maestros, bringing a new style to flamenco singing.
Javier Barón, one of the greatest male figures on the dance scene, pays tribute to musicians by inviting José Valencia, a singer who is constantly evolving.
Esperanza Fernández. This singer with a unique, charismatic voice takes audiences on a musical tour of the highlights of her career.
