Created in 1975 under the name Costa da Estoril Music Festival, the Estoril Lisboa Festival has presented more than 16,000 world-renowned artists such as M.Rostropovich, R.Nureyev, T.Berganza, acting in national heritage and heritage monuments of Lisbon, Estoril and Cascais. The contribution of the festival to the diffusion of historical values along with recent creations, means about 450 works presented in Portugal for the first time or in absolute premiere.
Under the theme "The Journey and the Moon" will be celebrated the 5th Centenary of the Circumnavigation of the Earth and the 50 Years of the arrival of man on the Moon. In 6 concerts with orchestra, 6 of chamber, 4 of organ, 3 recitals, 1 opera for children, 1 contest and 3 international courses, "Music in the time of Magalhanes and Elcano" will be presented; the opera "Marco Polo"; the world premiere of "Peregrinações", by Vasco Mendonça, or "Young Apollo", by B.Britten, among others related to the theme e 2019.

Luis I Hall of the National Palace of Ajuda , dedicated to "Music in the time of Magalhães and Elcano" through works for Vihuela of the most important musicians of the Golden Age as Luis de Narváez, Miguel de Fuenllana, Diego Pisador, Enríquez de Valderrábano, Luys de Milán and Diego Ortiz .
