This will be the first solo museum exhibition of drawings by the well-known Spanish chef and focuses on the role of drawing in his creative process. The use of drawing in the planning of cookery as both concept and product highlights a creative model that is an on-going process. For decades Adrià has filled hundreds of notebooks with concepts, ideas, photographs, collages and drawings imagining new dishes to be served at El Bulli. Simpler creative methods in the form of lists, tables of ingredients, cooking methods and accompaniments have also been used to synthesise ingredients and conceptualise new ways of cooking.
In addition to these drawings, the exhibition also features a computer showing the ‘Bullipedia’ – an online database containing all El Bulli’s recipes – as well as photographic reproductions of the famous restaurant’s kitchen, documentation on how the menus are developed, rating systems, personal notes and other items, ending with a few drawings of the new architectural design of El Bulli Foundation.
Coinciding with the opening of this exhibition, the film on Adrià’s involvement in Documenta 12 will be premiered, as well as a new film commissioned by the Drawing Center entitled ’18,260 Seconds’.
AC/E is collaborating with the Drawing Center through the mobility programme of the PICE.
