Exile Room 2016. José Luis Guerín Workshop and Retrospective

Exile Room is a non-governmental organisation that is part of the independent Athens-based multimedia art company Exile Films, which specialises in non-fiction. The company seeks to bring together, and collaborate with, filmmakers, writers, producers and exhibitors from all over the world in order to create films for international audiences. Exile Room has been screening documentaries and hosting various specialised workshops and free lectures on documentaries since 2009.

With the support of AC/E, Exile Room is holding a two-day workshop taught by Spanish director José Luis Guerín, one of the most innovative non-fiction filmmakers in Europe, which plays with the notions of documentary and fiction. The first day will consist of a lecture on theory and the second day will be devoted to a discussion on the manipulation of storytelling, sound and off-frame space, the fringes of experimentation, and the aesthetics of travel and movement, which are key aspects of his work. A retrospective of his films will round off the workshop.
