Since 2010 the international comic strip and drawing festival Entreviñetas has been the most important event in the field of graphic narrative (comic strips, graphic novels, albums and drawing) in Colombia and one of the most influential of its kind in Latin America. The festival promotes reading, the alternative publishing sector and creative dialogue through a carefully designed programme of lectures, workshops, artistic actions, creative laboratories and exhibitions.
The seventh edition of the festival will take place in 2016. During the months of September and October, three Colombian cities will host a programme of cultural events focusing on the best creative productions in the field of graphic storytelling. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘creative drift’ and artists from 14 countries will take part in a creative dialogue in which drawing is the main focus and the basis for telling stories.
One of the festival’s strategic focuses is its school for publishers, a professional and artistic programme established in 2012 with the aim of encouraging discussion and reflection with a view to training book professionals in the sector of graphic and emerging narrative. Since then, the programme has invited to Colombia the most prominent publishers and book experts in the world. During 2016, its fifth year, the school for publishers will promote talks between publishers and book professionals of Spain and Latin America in order to blaze trails in circulation, distribution, copyright management, promotion and sale of content, as well as the possible future of the sector in the region and management alternatives. The festival has designed a programme of activities for five guests of Spanish origin (two of whom are part of the same group: DeHavilland) to represent various projects that embody different perspectives on publishing management, with complementary careers and fields: from medium-sized publishers to emerging publishers who use alternative publishing tools (digital or risograph system). In addition, the guest publishers will take part in business roundtables, professional meetings and cultural events in order to establish management contacts that will give rise to professional exchanges between both sides of the Atlantic in the long term.
