Encuentros en la literatura / Encounters in Literature

The conferences organised by the DLSU Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center and the Instituto Cervantes of Manila bring together Filipino and foreign writers in Manila for a week to discuss issues related to the writing profession and the use of the imagination in writing. AC/E is collaborating with this programme by supporting the participation of the writer  Juan Manuel de Prada, in order to promote Spanish literature among the local community and foster networks of creators who contribute to the production of literary writing and the development of culture.

Juan Manuel de Prada is an accomplished Spanish writer with an extensive literary oeuvre and a large output as a journalist. He has received several prizes, among them the Planeta award in 1997 for La Tempestad; the Primavera novel award in 2003 and the national award for narrative in 2004, for La vida invisible, and the Biblioteca Breve award in 2007 for El séptimo velo. His latest novel, Morir bajo tu cielo, is precisely set in the Philippines in 1998 and is “An admirable novel that combines the adventurous spirit of Joseph Conrad and the motion of John Ford” (Pere Gimferrer).
