On the occasion of the centenary in 2022 of the birth of the poet José Hierro, Acción Cultural Española collaborates with the Fundación Centro de Poesía José Hierro by organizing these conferences with the aim of offering a dynamic, full and integrated vision of the poetic and cultural author.
Born in Madrid in 1922, José Hierro was a writer and poet who belonged to the first generation of postwar writers, within the so-called uprooted poetry. He began his career in 1947 with Earth without us, although in 1936 he already won a contest organized by the Popular Athenaeum of Santander with the story of Japanese atmosphere, The legend of the almond tree. Thus, he was one of the most outstanding poetic figures of the postwar period, along with Blas de Otero, Gabriel Celaya and Ángela Figuera.
