ESFF aims to help audiences in Scotland to discover the diversity of Spanish films and arts and create a network between entities related to culture and Spain. The long term aim is to build lasting connections for Spanish business and artist providing partnership funding for the production of the festival. This year’s 15 to 17 films would be combine with other art performances, workshops, talks and Q&As by researchers, filmmakers and lecturers.
This is an annual event. For this third edition we are negotiating with other Scottish venues to expand the Festival. Our school project will tour around Scotland in collaboration with the Filmhouse having projections in other locations such as Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness and Hawick. Also, we are working on the possibility 3 to 4 days of screenings in Glasgow collaborating with Glasgow Film Theatre and the Glasgow University.
The film festival comprises 16/17 films likely to produce fruitful discussions. The screenings, combine talks and Q&As by researchers, film directors, producers and actors. The Universities of Edinburgh, Stirling, St Andrews and Heriot-Watt support the project with researchers that engage in the different activities but from previous years we know that having cast and crew from the films make the screenings popular and engage the public in the discussions, bringing their expertise and anecdotes to a wider public. We also have primary and secondary school screenings and a gastronomic event that highly benefit from having filmmakers, producers and actors in the festival.
"Atlas" 50 portraits of Spaniards living in Edinburgh
Alongside the ESFF, we want to present an photographic exhibition showing portraits of Spaniards that are living in Edinburgh and making a living here working in the audio-visual industry, as well as their favourites part of the city. This exhibition aims to give an example of the Spanish diaspora and making a living abroad. This artist has been already touring his exhibition, Atlas, around Europe as part of San Sebastian 2016 Cultural City. The artis has agreed to adapt this project and create another "Atlas" in Edinburgh, about the city and the portraits of 50 people who have been changed by their experience and by the place they now live in and is already part of their being, their memories, their self.
