The Edinburgh International Film Festival (est.1947) is the longest continuously running film festival in the world showcasing UK, World and International premières from established and emerging film-makers from all over the world. It hosts a wide range of public screenings and education, talent development and industry-based activity for adults, young people and school-children. They are also a charity which depends on the support of cultural funders and international partners to make it happen.
The 70th Edition is a major celebration, and will feature special anniversary public events. The full programme includes over 130 premières, in-person Q+A events and outdoor film screenings, as well as industry-talent networking events with UK film distributors.
AC/E supports the premieres of:
'To Steal a Thief' (Cien años de perdón)
Daniel Calparsoro's new Spanish-language crime thriller, 'To Steal a Thief' (Cien años de perdón). After the film there will be a Q+A with the director for ticket-holders.
About the film: A group of thieves led by a man called El Uruguayo stalk a bank in Valencia to steal as many safety boxes as possible and later flee through a dug tunnel that communicates the building with an abandoned subway station. However, the press officer of the Prime Minister discovers what the thieves are actually after: they want to get their hands on box 314, property of Gonzalo Soriano, a former member of the government who slipped into a coma after a severe accident.
Mauro Herce’s new documentary, ‘Dead Slow Ahead’. After the film there will be a Q+A with the director for ticket-holders.
About the film: The freighter Fair Lady crosses the ocean. The hypnotic rhythm of its gears reveals the continuous movement of machinery devouring its workers: the last gestures of the old sailors' trade disappearing under the mechanic and impersonal pace of 21st century neocapitalism. Perhaps it is a boat adrift, or maybe just the last example of an endangered species. Although we don't know it, the engines are still running, unstoppable.
