The National Dramatic Center (CDN), attached to the INAEM, organizes Dramatic Residencies so that four contemporary playwrights, Spanish or residents in Spain, can access these residencies during the year 2024. The initiative has the support of AC/E since 2021 to support the stay of residents in prestigious European entities specialized in dramaturgy, such as the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, La Chartreuse Villeneuve lez Avignon, the Royal Court Theater in London or the Kammerspiele in Munich. These stays have an estimated duration of between one and two weeks. Its objective is the dissemination of the residents' work, interaction with receiving institutions, artistic exchange and visibility and access to programmers outside Spain.
Among the activities developed during the residencies, there is a program of meetings with authors, directors, managers and other disciplines linked to dramaturgy; and visits to other cultural institutions as well as attendance at performances in the theaters of the city visited. AC/E facilitates the translation of texts written by resident playwrights in previous editions, thus making it easier for international programmers to have knowledge of the works of Spanish residents.
AC/E also collaborates in the second call for European Residencies, aimed at contemporary Spanish playwrights or playwrights residing in Spain. This call is the result of an agreement between the CDN, the Lietuvos Nacionalinis Dramos Teatras (Vilnius) and the Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg (KVS) in Brussels. Under this agreement, each institution selects two residents of its country, with the aim of developing an international writing program between February and November 2024. This program includes a one-week stay in each of the centers of the agreement, plus another week at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin.
