'Do Not Disturb'. BAM Kids 2017

As part of BAM’s Kids Children’s Theater Season in 2017, the show 'Do Not Disturb', an original dance and nouveau-cirque piece created by celebrated Granada-based company Vaivén Circo, is presented. High-energy physical theater meets contemporary circus trickery as four factory workers defy gravity and stretch the boundaries of the body in order to attempt to construct a new machine.

Four factory workers struggle to assemble a gigantic wheel in this creative evocation of play through work. Brimming with the evocative, non-verbal storytelling of Chaplin and Keaton, Do Not Disturb—from acclaimed Spanish cirque juggernaut Vaivén Circo—combines dance, physical theater, and clown. A simple story of teamwork reaches new (figurative and literal) heights through incredible partner balances, acrobatic feats, and choreographed dances as students experience firsthand the power of people working together.

The Vaivén Circo company formed in 2008 when Raquel Pretel met Miguel Angel Moreno in the Catalan company Els Comediants. She was a dancer, while he was a circus performer. They decide to start working together and share their knowledge about circus and dance. In 2009, two acrobats joined the cast, Chema Martin and Emilio Lopez Arquillo, and together they started to develop even more original productions. Do Not Disturb was premiered in December 2011 and Des-Hábitat, their most recent work, was premiered in March 2015. The company has performed at some of the most important festivals around the world, such as: Fira de Cirq de Catalunya TRAPEZI in Reus, CIRCADA in Seville, Ane Brz Festival in Ljibljana, Bastid Art in France, Festival de Théâtre in Marrakech, LOST theatre in London, and many more.
