On Friday, December 10, the fourth edition of the Open Culture Game Jam will begin, an initiative organized by DEV and promoted by Acción Cultural Española.
Participants will have 9 days - until Sunday, December 19 - to develop games using public domain cultural content generated in Spain as a basis.
The jam will have two modalities, online and in person. The face-to-face modality will be held in Madrid at the headquarters of ESNE, the University School of Design, Innovation and Technology, which will open its doors to participants from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 December. In the opening session, invited experts in intellectual property and in history and culture will give some ideas on how to deal with the theme of the jam.
The projects best valued by a group of experts will appear highlighted in a physical exhibition that will be organized in Madrid during the month of January 2022.
The Open Culture Game Jam was born taking as a reference the "Public Domain Jam", which tried to encourage creators to use public domain licenses instead of continuing to make zombie games. This event collects the torch and takes it to our country to vindicate all the culture that has been created within our borders.
The first three editions were a success of participation and attendance at the open days of exhibition of the best video games created in the event. All games developed can be found here: https://itch.io/c/459508/jam-cultura-abiertas-collection
All the information, rules and registration forms are available on the jam website: www.cultura-abierta.es and on twitter: @JCulturaAbierta
(This year's logo design draws directly from the Islamic geometric pattern, since this edition wants to explore the Islamic tradition in the culture of the Iberian Peninsula.)
