Casa Maauad is a non-profit organisation which has hosted artists, critics and curators from various countries and disciplines through its programme of residencies in Mexico City for the past five years. Its programme is based on artistic production and is designed to support the development of contemporary art by promoting solid relationships between the guest artists and the local environment. The residencies last three months and offer the participants accommodation, an artist’s studio and a solo exhibition at the end of the period.
Cristina Garrido is one of the six artists chosen to enjoy a residency in 2016. With the support of the AC/E Mobility grants, Cristina Garrido is taking part in the residency at Casa Maauad with his exhibition I have the feeling that the art world is being captivated by Information Industry, an installation with the appearance of a group exhibition in which a series of objects, images and sounds in various rooms allude to the language and particular visual elements of contemporary art exhibitions. The artist is extending her project with a critical exploration of the mechanisms of circulation, valuation and legitimation of artworks, in which she questions the boundaries between artistic and curatorial work, changes in approaches to art in the digital age and how it influences the production of exhibitions and artworks.
