AC/E supports the participation through the PICE mobility grants of Coetus . Formed from the restlessness and passion of Aleix Tobías who has directed this group for 9 years, it reintroduces this ancient instrument, the coetus to the Iberian Peninsula. These are generally not very well known instruments and are traditionally played solo or to accompany a singer.
Coetus in Latin means union, meeting, inter-action. As a group, it is inspired by traditional rhythms, enriching and transforming inherited music from the Iberian Peninsula through its own language, creating an intense and moving modern repertory which combines majestically with voices.
In their show, Coetus performs a repertoire which gathers and transforms music taken from the storehouse of traditional music forged for centuries: celebrationary songs, work songs, serenades and lullabies. They are collected and reinterpreted in a way which characterises the group, creating both an alive and modern show as well as moving and creative.
Every two years the medieval town Freistadt in the heart of the upper Austrian region Mühlviertel becomes a colorful centre for music from all over the world. "Colours of Percussion" is an international festival highlight due to its unique charm and top-class artists & schedule. A top class festival with familiar atmosphere! The festival present also young percussionists from the local Music Schools and also international soloists and especially ensembles from all over the world.
