The Cinema Spagna Spanish film festival started out in Rome in 2008 on the initiative of the EXIT media association in order to disseminate Spanish cinema in Italy, promote the circulation of films in their original language and encourage the talents linked to them, projecting a creative and quality image of Spanish films.
From the outset the festival in Italy has been designed as a nationwide travelling event that visits different nerve centres of the country over the course of the year; in 2014 it will focus on Rome, Milan, Genoa and Bologna.
The main section of the festival, La Nueva Ola (The New Wave), shows a selection of recent Spanish films, proposing an open exchange between guests and audiences in the different cities. The programme is furthermore enriched by a look at our most representative classics, genres and subjects, including both new talents and internationally reputed filmmakers and professionals.
Some of the festival’s past guests have been Maribel Verdú, Victoria Abril, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Agustí Villaronga, Enrique Urbizu, Judith Colell, José Coronado, María Valverde, Ventura Pons, Marian Álvarez, Mar Coll, Macarena Rodríguez, Isaki Lacuesta, Carlos Areces, Julián Villagrán.
The national satellite TV channel Rai Movie is a new media partners at the seventh festival in 2014; this not only guarantees full television coverage but also provides a meeting point for the direct acquisition of broadcasting rights in Italy. This year’s festival, in which AC/E is collaborating, features David Trueba, Javier Cámara, Paco León, Mar Coll, and Jonás Trueba, who will present their work as well as teaching several workshops.
