This is the 8th edition of Beyond Flamenco with a programme that highlights the concerts of Amir El Saffar, Kiki Morente, David Carmona, Sergio de Lope, Rosario La Tremendita, La Shica and the residences "Transcending Gender Identity" and "Flamenco meets" Spoken Word. "
AC/E supports the participation of Sergio de Lope who offers a flamenco fusion concert at the Lilian Baylis Studio, another one from Rosario La Tremendita with the title "Delirium Tremens", the one from La Shica "Shica & Gutman" and finally the one of Patricia Guerrero with "Cathedral", as well as an artistic residence of Jesus Carmona on "Transcending Gender Identity".
The award-winning flautist and saxophonist Sergio de Lope brings true flamenco soul to his jazzy compositions. For his London debut, he and his ensemble pay homage to the flamenco masters who influenced him, with rising star of the next generation Cristina Aguilera appearing as a guest dancer.
"Delirium Tremens" is another step in his research interest Rosario Guerrero "La Tremendita" exposing traditional flamenco cante to new environments, both sound and harmonious, as representation. The album - edited by Universal Music Spain - was created from the personal experience of the singer herself, author of the fourteen songs, executive producer and artistic director.
All the arguments that animate syntheses such as funk, flamenco, rock, electronic and rap, appear on the album "Shica & Gutman", published in the late 2018. A handful of songs, which, with texts that they stop at angry loves, second chances and desires to keep going, they have been composed and performed by Elsa Rovayo, La Shica, and the keyboardist Didi Gutman.
It is transit, transformation, loss, madness. It is the attempt to defeat destiny. Catedral is all about an initiation in which the devoted observer comes to a stop, silence their words, and set their hearts ready for the sacred liturgy of the dance, for the dialogue with the world of creation. It is the connection of our outer space, the profane, with the sacred inside.
The Beyond Flamenco (BF) series appeared in 2012 in parallel to Flamenco Festival London and New York with the aim of serving as a platform for emerging artists who are currently forging a style and who will be the great figures of the future. Under this premise, BF is articulated around two axes: the development of artistic residencies in collaboration with the host theaters of both festivals; and the presentation of emerging artists, in their traditional and contemporary aspects.
