Since its establishment in 1998, Berlin Contemporary Art Biennale (Berlin Biennale für Zeitgenössische Kunst) has become one of the most important contemporary art events. Hosted by the art scene of one of the most outstanding cultural metropolises in Europe, the city of Berlin, the biennale explores and presents new artistic developments in the capital.
Berlin Biennale thus attracts art lovers from all over the world and has been enthusiastically received by the public as an experimental and thematic showcase. It takes place every two years in different venues in the city and is characterised by the participation of renowned curators, who are encouraged to establish a dialogue between the city, its citizens interested in contemporary art and other curators belonging to the sector.
Given the importance of this event and bearing in mind that Acción Cultural Española’s objectives include supporting Spanish artists within and beyond our borders, backing their presence at international events and fostering networking between international creators and programmers, contacts have been established between the organisers of Berlin Biennale and AC/E with a view to featuring more Spanish artists and curators in the event. For this 8th Biennale, AC/E is accordingly supporting the participation of Xabier Arakistain (curator), Erick Beltrán (artist), Chus Martínez (curator) and Pedro G. Romero (artist) in the public and education programme.
