BAN! Buenos Aires Negra 2015

BAN! Buenos Aires Negra 2015

Buenos Aires Negra (BAN!) is an international detective novel festival aimed at professionals who work in areas related to real crime: judges, public prosecutors, police, forensic scientists, criminologists and former criminals. The theme of the festival is ‘Where real crime mingles with fictional crime’. It also features shows, performing arts and exhibitions of visual arts and photography.

The festival seeks to stimulate the production of good-quality literature in Buenos Aires, give impetus to the publishing industry, boost book sales and promote reading. BAN! encourages reflection on real crime and its connections with literature and art. It is also an opportunity to discuss the growing problem of crime in relation to power, society, the economy and education.

For the first time, this year’s edition of BAN! will be continued by Montevideo Negro (MON!) in the Uruguayan capital. The authors invited to both events will cross the Río de la Plata in a boat – ‘El Buque Negro’ – hired especially for the event and will also host festival and press activities. BAN! will run from 31 July to 6 August and MON! from 7 to 10 August 2015.

Both festivals will feature Spanish Detective Novel Day, in which Fernando Marías Amondo, Vanesa Montfor Écija and Daniel Rojo Bonilla are taking part with the support of AC/E. This one-day event includes lectures, roundtables with authors, performances and shows featuring Spanish authors and actors.
