Auditorio 1988-2013

Auditorio 1988-2013

The 2013–14 season of the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid is marking the celebration of twenty-five years of activity in a building which has become a veritable ‘house of music’.

The purpose of the exhibition Auditorio 1988–2013 is to commemorate this landmark date. It is expected to be visited by both veteran aficionados keen to recall some of the moments experienced over the past twenty-five years and people who have so far been unaware of the building and can now discover what goes on between its walls, as well as part of its rich history of this past quarter-century.

The content of the exhibition, which is grouped into various sections, includes:

1) The origins. The construction process of the building, documented with drawings, photographs and other primary sources.
2) The opening. A selection of programmes, photographs, audio-visuals and press cuttings of the inaugural concerts held at the Auditorio Nacional in October 1988.
3) The house orchestra. A brief survey of the concerts performed by Spain’s national orchestra and choir at the Auditorio Nacional over the past twenty-five years.
4) Other residents. This section shows the activity carried out by the Spain’s national youth orchestra, the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (CNDM) and the no longer extant Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporánea.
5) Usual guests. Takes a look at the institutions that regularly hold their series of concerts at the Auditorio Nacional, in both the symphonic and chamber halls.
6) Outstanding artists and moments. Shows a selection of special concerts and an exhibition of photographs of great artists who have performed at the Auditorio Nacional, including instrumentalists, singers and directors.
7) Premieres and recordings. A survey of some of the works that have been premiered and/or recorded in either of the two halls of the Auditorio.
8) Draw the Auditorio. Exhibition of the drawings of the Auditorio made by children as part of a competition held in November 2013.
9) Photograph the Auditorio. Exhibition of the photographs of the Auditorio taken by amateurs as part of a competition held in the last months of 2013.
10) Tell a story about the Auditorio. Exhibition of the short stories written by amateurs as part of a competition held in the last months of 2013. The authors of the chosen stories, as well as having their stories included in the exhibition, will receive tickets for the concerts of the CNDM as a prize.
