The Spanish artist Gadea Burgaz has been unanimously selected by the Jury who has highlighted the quality - in content and in form - of her proposal, her passion and conviction, and the formidable potential offered by her diverse and varied artistic practice. Gadea Burgaz will be able to develop her residence for 6 months in Wiels (Brussels), from July to December 2020.
In response to the call published on October 26, 2019, 47 applications were received from artists of Spanish nationality and / or residents in Spain, of which this are the artists retained for a final evaluation:
1. Gadea Burgaz; 2. Jorge Suárez-Quiñones Rivas; 3. Mercedes Mangrané.
The residency programme organized by WIELS forms a key part of the overall programme of this prestigious center of Brussels and an international laboratory for emerging artists from all over the world. AC/E collaborates every year supporting the call for a Spanish artist. WIELS provides a unique workspace for artists, in which they can continue their work, as well as participate in current debates and research on contemporary art practices. For six months, residents are offered an individual workspace (+/- 45 m2)and a framework designed to facilitate a durable exchange of ideas with the artistic and cultural life of Brussels.
OPEN CALL
Artists over 21 years of age, not students, of Spanish nationality or residents in Spain can participate. They must have contributed to the Spanish art scene in recent years. Candidates can work with any medium, but they must have developed at least two years of professional career and participated in several exhibitions. The residence is especially focused on emerging artists and those who, with a long professional career, are interested in reorienting their creative process or carrying out a research or a new project with respect to those they have developed so far.
The application documents must be sent in .PDF format to residency@wiels.org before 23:59 hours on March 31, 2020.
The final decision will be communicated, before April 25, through the website www.accioncultural.es and to the person personally selected at the email address you provided.
