Acción Cultural Epañola supports the exhibition project "Antoni Tàpies. The practice of art", curated by Manuel Borja-Villel on the work of Antoni Tàpies within the framework of the celebration of the centenary of the artist's birth. The exhibition has a wide selection of works from national and international museums and private collections, covering the artist's extensive career from 1943 to 2011.
The exhibition was held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid from February 21 to June 24, 2024, and will later travel to the Antoni Tápies Foundation. Organized jointly by both entities, the exhibition brings together nearly 200 works from public and private collections around the world, many of them exhibited together for the first time.
Acción Cultural Española collaborates with this project in the production of the exhibition catalogue, which includes the research carried out within the framework of this exhibition that is the core of the Tàpies Year, and is published in Spanish, Catalan and English. The publication is presented coinciding with the last roaming in Barcelona, between July 20, 2024 and January 12, 2025).
A journey through the career of Tàpies
The exhibition offers a chronological journey through the prolific career of Antoni Tàpies, from his beginnings in the Spanish post-war period to his latest works from the 2000s. Through paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures and objects, the exhibition highlights the the artist's constant experimentation with materials and techniques, as well as his deep reflection on the human condition, history and artistic creation.

The wide selection of works, which allows us to appreciate the evolution of Tàpies' style throughout his career.
The presence of emblematic works, such as "Materia gris" (1953), "Pintura" (1960) or "L'espera" (1972).
The incorporation of documents and personal objects of the artist, which offer a more intimate vision of his creative process.
The reconstruction of some of Tàpies' work environments, such as his studio on Sant Eudald street in Barcelona.
