Neputns is held to be the best Latvian publisher of art books. For the past few years it has been exploring two new directions in its catalogue by specialising, on the one hand, in collections of poetry and prose and, on the other, in Latvian translations of foreign literature. Despite its proven quality, Spanish poetry is still fairly unknown in Latvia today.
Therefore Neputns is compiling an anthology of twentieth-century Spanish poetry that includes 33 authors, each represented by 6 poems, together with a short biography. The translations are by Leons Briedis, a Latvian poet and translator who is member of the PEN club and the Latvian Academy of Science.
The project is due to be launched in 2014, coinciding with Riga’s status as European Capital and the opening of its famous National Library, which provides an additional readership interested in literature.
AC/E is collaborating in this project through the mobility awards of the PICE, by supporting the participation of Alejandro López Andrada, one of the authors represented in the book, who will take part in its public launch by giving a lecture.
