ALT National Choreography Competition is more then a contest, it's an annual project that began in 2013 and today has grown into one of the most prestigious contemporary dance event in Romania, by bringing to the public's attention the local and international dance artists. The project takes place in mid-October, it lasts five days, it includes the official competition, workshops and presentations of invited dance performances. The competition is live broadcast through internet.
This year's 4th edition of ALT National Choreography Competition is one of the largest editions ever organized , famous artists from SUA, Malaysia and Spain will perform next to local personalities and emerging artists. This year, its main focus is to achieve a better understanding of the cultural and social development of choreography in the world and to exchange information in the field of dance via performances, workshops, round tables, press conferences and meetings.
AC/E supports the participation of Martz Contemporary Dance Company to be part of the jury committee, to conduct dance workshops for Romanian professionals and to present the dance performance ”IronCage”, choreography by Eva Sánchez Martz.
For the last two Eva Sánchez Martz has been one of the main partners of the project. As she is a teacher at the Institute of Arts Barcelona, a co-producer of the international event World Dance Movement and the choreographer of Martz Contemporary Dance Company, each year she offered scholarships at the Institute or World Dance Movement summer camp, internships at her company and a lot of creativity and support for the Romanian dancers.
The dance workshops that she is going to conduct this year are important for the development of Romanian dancers as she has an especial approach to the art of choreography, by mixing her skills in , acrobatics, interpretative motion, artistic techniques and expression with contemporary dance.
This year we intend to create a stronger connection between the two organization, by taking our collaboration to a next level. Last year we had the opportunity to present only short solo or duet pieces.
The piece we intend to produce and present in Romania and Spaina is an one hour Romanian - Spanish dance co-production, with Eva Sánchez Martz as choreographer, 4 Romanians dancer and 4 Spanish dancers. It will be first presented around 10th October at The Institute of Arts and then, between 15th and 24th October will be premiered in Romania, in the framework of ALT National Choreography Competiton.
The piece ¨IronCage¨ connects with the sociological term propoused by Max Weber and relates the content of the dance composition with the increased rationalization inherent in social life, not only in terms of ¨mechanized petrification ¨but also of a chaotic, even atrophic, inundation of subjective values. ÏronCage¨through the movement dinamics generats diferent imaginary architectures. Inside this structure the dance piece will show to the audience the decisions of an utopic free human being. A man free to use his time for the whole life, free to go where he wants when he wants cannot make a greatest use of his freedom in a word ruled by the clock and the imperative of a fixed above. This man will demand to the world firstly respond to his need for playing, for adventure, for movilty, as well as all the conditions that facilitate the free creation of his own life.
