El álbum contemporáneo. Jornadas sobre la actualidad del libro álbum y los libros ilustrados

Acción Cultural Española and the Ministry of Education are organising conferences on albums and illustrated books at the Centro Cultural de España in Santiago de Chile on 24 and 25 June. These Jornadas sobre la actualidad del libro álbum y los libros ilustrados are aimed at heads and coordinators of learning resource centres of regions V, VI and RM.

The conferences, which are divided into four workshops, analyse new twenty-first-century trends in albums and graphic books for children and young readers. Therefore one of the aims is to establish guidelines for classroom activities.

In addition, a roundtable open to everyone will be held on 24 June, titled “El quehacer literario del álbum actual: la construcción del lector activo” (The literary duty of today’s album: shaping the active reader). It will be attended by Arianna Squilloni, Ana G. Lartitegui, Pablo Álvarez and Constanza Mekis as a moderator and will take place at the Centro Cultural España on Avda. Providencia 927 (Salvador metro station), Providencia, Santiago.
Arianna Squilloni is a multi-language publisher based in Barcelona. She has directed the publishing company A buen paso, specialised in children’s books, since 2008.  She contributes to specialist magazines in Spain and other countries by writing articles, interviews and book reviews. She takes part regularly in the conferences and debates held as part of the study activities of the Círculo Hexágono group. She has published  the books En casa de mis abuelos (Ekaré, 2011) with Alba Marina Rivera, Martín, de grumete a capitán (Thule Ediciones, 2013) with David De Las Heras, Un mar de mundos (Thule Ediciones, 2014) with Alberto Gamón, the book of poems Invierno de abril (SD Edicions, 2013) and the essay El laberinto de la palabra. Una guía de viaje as part of the “Cuadernos Hexágono” collection (Pantalia, 2014).

Ana G. Lartitegui is a prominent illustrator and author of albums. She has written No se lo digas a Nadie (Eldevives, 2003) and has illustrated the books Titirimundi and Titellimundi (Macmillan, 2008) by the writer Ignácio Sanz, Together with writer Sergio Lairla, she is the author of the books El libro de la suerte (A buen Paso, 2014) and El botón Antón y la botona Ramona (Edelvives, 1991). She is joint founder of the project studio Pantalia, coordinates the specialised study group “Círculo Hexágono” and publishes the monographic magazine Fuera [de] Margen, as well as the collection of short essays “Cuadernos Hexágono”.
