Spain Explores. Malaspina 2010

The Malaspina 2010 circumnavigation exhibition is an interdisciplinary research project the main aims of which are to evaluate the impact of global change on the ocean and to explore its biodiversity. Over ten months more than 250 scientists on board the Hespérides andSarmiento de Gamboa vessels completed the expedition under the direction of the general coordinator Carlos M. Duarte Quesada (IMEDEA, CSIC), combining cutting-edge scientific research with the training of young researchers, while also showcasing marine science and promoting a scientific culture among the general public.

This exhibition presents the Malaspina 2010 expedition, its historical background, Spain's long tradition in seagoing exploration, with a focus on geographical discovery, along with the project's significance for future scientific research.
