Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) is supporting the presence of the film Numax Presenta, by Catalan director Joaquim Jordà (1935-2006), in the project All I can see is the management, an exhibition and programme of events analysing the omnipresence of the management culture from the late 1970s to the present day. The exhibition brings together contemporary and historical works which consider how the concept of work under latter-day capitalism penetrates not only the office but also spheres such as education and households.
Numax Presenta…, to be screened on 1 December at Birkbeck College, London, is a film of historic value, portraying as it does the industrial crisis and the organization of the working class during the Spanish transition to democracy, as well as a fundamental work in creative documentary making in Spain. Despite being well known in his native country, Joaquim Jordà unfortunately remains an unfamiliar name in the film world abroad, largely because of the lack of translations available. The screening will be contextualized by means of a presentation given by Dr. Mari Paz Balibrea Enriquez, lecturer in Hispanic Literature and Cultural Studies at Birkbeck College.
