9th Villa de Leyva Early Music Conference 2017

9th Villa de Leyva Early Music Conference 2017

The Early Music Conference (EMA) takes place during Easter week in the municipality of Villa de Leyva, department of Boyacá, Colombia. In addition to concerts, every year it features talks which are open to the public. These have given rise to a model of training through a specialised theoretic and practical course on appreciating early music.

This 9th edition will take place from 12 to 15 April 2017 and is entitled "Encuentros y Desencuentros en el Renacimiento" (Points of convergence and divergence in the Renaissance). To mark the 500th anniversary of various historical events that triggered major changes in the history of the West, the programme revolves around repertoires spanning from the late fifteenth to the early seventeenth centuries and a historical figure, composer or repertoire that is related in some way to the proposed theme.

AC/E is supporting the participation of the group Camerata Iberia, who perform Spanish Renaissance and Baroque pieces – a Golden Age of Spanish music with a variety of songs in a clear, straightforward language, contrapuntal polyphony for harp and keyboard, and the technical virtuosity of instrumental glosses.
