Buenos Aires Children’s and Young People’s Book Fair is an event specially geared to encouraging reading habits in children, teenagers and young people. Visitors can come into contact with thousands of books and take part in storytelling, workshops, shows, competitions, talks with writers, tributes, games and a host of appealing activities. It is one of the few fairs in the world devoted wholly to promoting books among children and young people. It features nearly 100 exhibitors and is visited by more than 300,000 people, who take part in highly varied activities that include exhibitions, launches and signings, competitions, professional meetings and tributes.
In a year when the world of culturer is paying tribute to writer Julio Cortázar, the 24th Children’s and Young People’s Book Fair is inviting visitors to discover the boundless realm of books that is inhabited by writers, illustrators and specialists and to enjoy shows, workshops, choirs, talks and exhibitions. This unique context of Cortázar Year is the backdrop for Cortázar illustrated, an activity designed to provide a deeper insight into the oeuvre of the Argentinian writer, in this case through illustration.
AC/E is collaborating with the Fair through the PICE mobility grants by supporting the participation in this tribute of artist Emilio Urberuaga, a renowned and multi-award-winning illustrator (National Illustration Prize, among others) who is well-versed in Cortázar’s work and has illustrated the only children’s album to be published with an original text by the Argentinian author: El Discurso del oso (The Discourse of the Bear). The activity includes a discussion (Cortázar in children’s literature), an exhibition of the illustrations in El discurso del oso, and several illustration workshops.
