The 24th City of Medellín International Zarzuela, Operetta and Opera Season 2018 will feature a repertoire of three (3) major lyrical performances, in addition to other educational activities seeking to enhance social transformation and cultural get-togethers with children, young people and adults alike, so that they are able to enjoy these performances apt for the World's major capitals. Likewise, the aim is to promote training of lyrical singers of all ages and backgrounds.
This edition will include the presentation of the “Luisa Fernanda” and “Sobrinos del Capitán Grant” Zarzuelas at the Metropolitan Theatre, supported by AC/E. A more casual social event has been organised with an opening concert, an Educational Concert, a Visual Decibels Masterclass and a Lyrical Performance in one of the city's parks.
The Spanish Zarzuela “Luisa Fernanda”, by Federico Moreno Torroba, saw its premiere 86 years ago at the Calderón Theatre in Madrid, and will be performed at the Medillín Metropolitan Theatre on 30th and 31st August at 20:00. There is an unbeatable cast, including the Colombian / Argentinean soprano Gisela Zivic playing Luisa Fernanda, the Spanish baritone as Vidal Hernando and Andoitz Ruibal as dancer and choreographer, who throughout their careers have brought these characters to life on some of the main stages around the world.
“Sobrinos del Capitán Grant” will be performed at the Medillín Metropolitan Theatre on 12th and 13th October at 20:00 and 19:00 respectively. The cast includes significant participation by Spanish artists: Lorenzo Moncloa (Stage Directoin) Gorka Sierra (Conductor), Paco Lahoz and Carlos Crooke. The “Coro Prolírico de Antioquia” choir will be taking part in the performance.
