Launched in 2000, Jeonju International Film Festival has pioneered a unique territory in the realm of film festival circles. The motto of Jeonju IFF is introducing artworks at the frontline of the alternative streams and independent spirit from the contemporary cinema. The program of Jeonju IFF focuses on offering experiences media evolutions in both aesthetic and technical aspects.
In order to overcome film industry’s unilateral trend of pursuing ‘profits’, the festival values ‘various preference’ and ‘new challenges’ as top priority. Jeonju IFF not only supports finding new talents, creative experiments and independent spirits, but also connects them to make a bigger picture. The 17th Jeonju International Film Festival will be held on April 28th to May 7th, 2016 in traditionally beautiful city of Korea, Jeonju.
The festival presents various innovative projects and supports adventurous and experimental filmmakers.
As for Special Focus section which is followed by last year of Wang Bing's. This year, Jeonju IFF is organising an event with Spanish artist, Lois Patiño whose works reflects about the relationship between man and landscape searching for new cinema languages and experiences in the image. His films and video-installations have been shown internationally in places as Rotterdam IFF, New York IFF, BAFICI... With his first feature film "Costa da Morte" won the best emerging director at Locarno Film Festivals among many other awards. His short film "Mountain in shadow" won at Oberhausen or Clermont-Ferrand IFF.
Currently, he is making films only for this event, Jeonju IFF.
