150th Anniversary of Fortuny Madrazo. Lecture cycle

The Asociación FortunyM Cultura  has organized a series of lectures to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of the Spanish painter Mariano Fortuny Marsal (1838-1874). This event seeks to pay tribute to the figure of the artist and explore the deep connection he established with the various cities that marked his life and work.

The cycle aims to trace the places that were foundational in Fortuny's artistic and personal career, establishing a link between them and revealing the influence they exerted on his style and themes. Through the talks, it aims to highlight the importance of geography in Fortuny’s artistic creation and analyze how the different cities were reflected in his works.

The cycle begins in Reus in autumn 2024 and runs until November 2025, visiting cities such as Barcelona, Granada, Seville, Rome, Madrid, Paris, Tangier, Tetouan, Naples or Venice. These localities witnessed Fortuny’s successes and challenges, and its residents were partakers of its aspirations and frustrations.

This lecture series represents a unique opportunity to delve into the life and work of Mariano Fortuny Marsal, one of the most prominent Spanish painters of the 19th century. By exploring the connections between the artist and the cities that inspired him, it seeks to enrich knowledge about his legacy and promote the dissemination of his art.

The FortunyM Cultura Association is the main organizer of this event, for which it has the support of Spanish Cultural Action (AC/E).

The lecture series is presented as a tribute to the figure of Mariano Fortuny Marsal and an invitation to explore the rich diversity of his work through the cities that marked his life.
