P. 3

The AC/E Digital Culture Annual Report was launched in 2013 with the aim of delving into the transformation happening within the arts and culture sector. The publication was designed in order to help entities and professionals create experiences as per the expectations of 21st century consumers.
After five years, a digital strategy has been developed which has since become a key part of institutions. The Annual Report also plays a fundamental role in strengthening the bond between AC/E and professionals within the arts and culture sector. We have done an in-depth analysis of themes such as the performing arts, festivals, museums and cultural heritage and have introduced some of the most interesting experiences; from both a national and interna- tional perspective.
The Annual Report focuses on the opportunities that technological developments can offer for a sector that largely distinguishes itself through the production of innovative and quality con- tent: a position which can give it an edge in the digital era.
Over the last five years we have seen how the most advanced technologies – presented in the first edition of our Annual Report – have become commonplace in the arts and culture sector. We have also seen how they have enriched AC/E activities through virtual visits, digital content and 3D experiences. The latter has been partic- ularly useful for historical re-enactments and for sharing educational material.
The first part of the 2018 edition has brought together professionals in the arts and culture sector and experts in the digital field to get up to speed on the most important issues in current digital trends, such as artificial intelligence in artistic creation, transmedia content and con- sumption patterns of arts and culture online.
Every year the second part of the edition (Focus) reflects and explains – through the use of best-practice examples both nationally and internationally – the biggest changes happening among readers and reading material in the digital era. The main objective of this section is to present a unified view on the matter. Some of the questions addressed in this section are, for example: a study of the habits of the 21st century reader, or how to form reading habits among our youngest readers within a digital context.
For the presentation of the results of the Annual Report we have the support and involvement, once again, of Espacio Fundación Telefónica and their outstanding team. Throughout the course of the year we will embark on a campaign that will take us to various specialised forums. To- gether with our advisory board, we will also be evaluating the challenges that we will address in next year’s edition.
