L’Avenir tiene su punto de partida en una interpretación libre de
los Falansterios, la comunidad teorizada por el socialista utópico Charles Fourier en el siglo xix. Aunque Fourier no dibujó los planos para estos edificios, en sus textos los describió detalladamente. El edificio estaba pensado para ofrecer a sus habitantes una
vida y un ambiente armónico,
de acuerdo a un reloj universal.
La única representación gráfica
del proyecto de un Falansterio
se recogió en la revista l’Avenir, animada por Victor Considerant, que promovía las ideas de Fourier. En el vídeo un grupo inicia un viaje con los fragmentos de un modelo a escala a partir de ese dibujo, que acaban recomponiendo en tres dimensiones, después de algunas paradas.

L’Avenir is based on a loose interpretation of the phalanstery, the community theorised by the utopian socialist Charles Fourier in the 19th century. Although Fourier did not draw plans for these buildings, he described them in detail in his texts. The building was conceived to offer
its inhabitants a harmonious life and atmosphere, in accordance with a universal clock. The only visual depiction of a phalanstery was published in the magazine l’Avenir, which promoted Fourier’s ideas and was edited by Víctor Considerant. In the video a
group sets out on a voyage with fragments of a scale model derived from this drawing, which after several stops they end up putting together again in three dimensions.
