The piñatas [stuffed papier- mâché figures] were originally intermediary figures in colonial missionary work. What once was a medium for Christian religious motifs today represents renovated idols such as Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Buzz Lightyear, Harry Potter, Shrek, or Winnie the Pooh.
